Eating Disorders
Eating disorders and body image issues are rampant in today’s society among not only young women, but also men. Regardless of the type of eating disorder, most of these individuals suffer from the same core underlying issue: a sense of helplessness along with a desperate need to feel in control of their lives. This control manifests itself through food, dieting, and obsessiveness with body weight and exercise. This is all taken to the extreme until food, eating, and exercising become all-consuming in the individual’s life.
Eating disorders are progressive and tend to worsen over time, which is why it is critical to seek treatment as early on as possible. Clients who have been diagnosed with an eating disorder should also seek the care of a professional psychologist while working on improving their malnourished health. We can work in conjunction with our client’s health care provider and psychologist to provide the best possible support and care. Having the right team behind each individual is crucial in helping him/her break deeply imbedded psychological, emotional, and physical cycles. We help clients with eating disorders by helping them cultivate a healthier relationship with food. We strive to teach them to view food as a nourishing tool instead of an emotional comforter, saboteur, or thing that must be compulsively controlled.
Our goal is to provide the understanding, support, and guidance these clients need in order to identify and overcome the underlying lifestyle and emotional triggers that foster their perception of food or eating. We help our patients analyze and reassimilate their relationship with eating, food, nutrition, body image, and exercise.
