Vegan and Vegetarian

Vegan/Vegetarian

Vegan, VegetarianWe offer specialized nutrition programs for those who are currently living a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle.  We are also highly experienced in providing guidance for those individuals who wish to transition towards a plant-based diet.  This day in age, many people are choosing specialized diets (i.e. vegetarianism, veganism, gluten free, paleo, etc.) as a means to achieve optimal health.  Many of these diets can be very healthy if properly implemented, but can have certain pitfalls.  Just because certain foods are vegan or gluten free, for example, does not necessarily make them healthy or free of harmful chemicals.  We can help you navigate these pitfalls, as well as ensure that you get the nutrients your body needs in order to maintain optimal health.

Vegan/VegetarianVegetarians and vegans tend to take in more vital nutrients from veggies, fruits, and grains.  In addition, their diet often eliminates unhealthy substances found in animal products such as saturated fats and cholesterol.  In general, they can have a lower risk of certain types of cancers, heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure.  In addition, vegans tend to have and maintain healthier body weights.  However, a well-rounded and healthy vegan diet involves careful planning and attention to certain foods.  Although vegans eat extra veggies and fruits, they may still be at risk of not consuming enough of the vitamins/minerals found more commonly in animal foods.  Vegetarians and vegans alike can avoid nutritional deficiencies by obtaining these nutrients from plant based sources.  For instance, some vegans may not get enough vitamin B-12, iron, calcium, vitamin D, protein, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids.  However, they can be easily incorporated into a vegan diet from plant based foods sources.  A well planned, balanced vegan diet can be accomplished and offers many people a healthier lifestyle with a sense of peace that they are living by their beliefs.

We provide nutrition guidance and support for your specialized diet with individualized meal plans, snack options, vegetarian/vegan recipes, resources, and education.  Whether you’re a vegetarian or vegan for environmental, ethical, or health reasons, we’re here to help you achieve optimal nutrition and reach your goals.
